Holywood Cricket Club
Holywood Cricket Club was established in 1881. The home ground is Seapark Oval, Holywood. The 1st XI plays in Section Two of the First Division of the Northern Cricket Union. It is currently striving to restore itself to its more traditional place within Section One. The club has 3 senior weekend teams and 4 junior teams.
Picture shows the victorious Holywood team following their possible promotion clinching victory over Section 2 champions Cliftonville on Saturday 3 September 2016. The win gave the local side the four points they needed to ensure fellow promotion rivals Cregagh and Laurelvale couldn’t better them on points achieved with all three capable of securing a 44 point total from their remaining fixtures before Saturday’s games.
There are regular Saturday fixtures, together with training nights throughout the week, Monday to Friday. Seniors meet (weather permitting) on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout July and August. This year, the club has also devoted itself especially to the development of the cricketing- and life-skills of young players. The club’s coaches are considering operating a summer scheme this year, depending on the interest from parents and children.
