Holywood Conservation Group
Holywood Conservation Group exists to maintain the Holywood Conservation Area and to promote the preservation of fine old buildings, trees and other notable features that enrich our lives in and around Holywood. We try to make Holywood an attractive place in which to live, work and visit. We are a registered charity and a limited company, wholly dependent upon our membership for donations and voluntary activity through an elected committee of directors.
Amongst other things, the HCG has campaigned for the now established Conservation Area in Holywood;
Organised the funding and planting of over 70 trees in the town centre;
Set up the Holywood Old School Preservation Trust and, with fundraising, saved the building;
Successfully challenged Planning decisions through Judicial Reviews;
Fought to save the ‘Johnny The Jig’ sculpture by Rosamund Praeger,
and retain its listed status.
Worked with other organisations in providing advice and information.
Continued to press local authorities regarding dilapidated buildings.
Encouraged quality building design and signage in the town centre.
Provided the membership with regular updates.
